On Wednesday nights at 6pm inquisitive and engaging people get together at the Vincent’s Copper Top to discuss life’s most fascinating questions.
Pastor Nathan shares what he thinks Jesus – the most influential person in human history – might have to say about the night’s topic, and then the group discussion begins.
Regulars, newcomers, Christians of every sort, and non-Christians are all welcome and wanted. We want to hear from you. Good discussion and honest debate challenges and improves everyone’s thinking.
Recently our friend Kirby suggested that the weekly discussion would be improved if people had time to think about the topic of the week and the discussion questions before hand. Great idea!
Here is the topic and discussion questions for Wednesday, June 3rd:
What is the difference between faith and foolishness; being optimistic and being delusional?
- Can you think of an example from your life or the life of someone else where a certain negative belief negatively impacted their life? How have limiting beliefs impacted your life?
- Can you think of an example from your life or the life of someone else where confidence (belief in the face of the unknown), optimism, or an empowering belief positively impacted their life? How have empowering beliefs impacted your life?
- Can you think of an example from your life or the life of someone else where they had a positive but inaccurate belief about themselves or something else that negatively impacted their life?
- Both being optimistic and confident (faith in the face of unkown) as well as being delusionally optimistic or overly confident can have their consequences. What are they? Is erring towards one safer than the other?
- How can we have the faith to believe in the impossible and also be properly oriented to reality (wise)? How can we live with empowering confidence while not suffering from self-defeating delusions? How can we recognize which ones are running our lives?
